KAHRIN SPEAR x CLEVELAND CLINIC
a fiber art installation honoring the relationship between nurses and their pediatric cancer patients
My name is Kahrin Spear and I’m a singer-songwriter / multimedia artist born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio.
I find purpose in using fabric to create abstract shapes that evoke feelings of peace, connection, and healing.
As a way to celebrate local art that connects nurses with their patients, I propose commissioning me to install a larger-than-life fabric mural in the Pediatric Oncology Wing at Cleveland Clinic.
To make this installation interactive, we could invite both nurses and patients to donate a scrub or an article of clothing to be cut and shaped as part of the mural (preferably blue or green in color). Otherwise I would source thick, carpet-like fabric in this exact color palette.

RESTING ANIMAL SERIES
As a secondary installation, I envision a series of 12 resting fabric animals hung in succession along a hallway or individually placed in patient rooms.

THE RED ROAD
As spoken by Oglala Sioux medicine man, Black Elk, to be walking the red road is to live a spiritual life embodying the Seven Sacred Virtues of the Lakota.
Inspired by this teaching, I combined fabric and wax to encapsulate the essence of these virtues and their unique role in creating a life of harmony.
